The Petzl I'D S Descender is a self-braking device designed for work at height and professional rope access applications. Developed for experienced users, it combines controlled descent, secure work positioning, and advanced safety functions in a single compact unit. Its design supports both everyday rope access tasks and demanding rescue scenarios, where reliability and precise control are essential.

Controlled descent with enhanced safety functions

The I'D S features an ergonomic handle that allows smooth and comfortable control of descent. An integrated anti-panic function automatically stops the descent if the handle is pulled too hard, helping reduce the risk of accidents caused by user error. An anti-error catch further limits incorrect rope installation, supporting safer use in complex or high-pressure environments. Two descent modes are available, either on the side plate or through the V-shaped friction channel, allowing control to be adapted to the situation.

AUTO-LOCK positioning and versatile handling

The AUTO-LOCK system allows the user to position themselves at a workstation without tying off the device or maintaining handle input. As soon as the handle is released, the rope is automatically locked in place. Once locked, rope can be taken up without manipulating the handle, supporting efficient short ascents or the creation of reversible haul systems. The cam can also be used to feed slack or belay a lead climber using appropriate techniques, adding versatility across work and rescue tasks.

Durable construction for heavy loads and rescue use

A stainless steel wear plate reinforces the rope friction zone, improving durability during repeated descents. The safety gate on the moving side plate allows rope installation while the device remains connected to the harness, helping facilitate the passage of intermediate anchors. The side plate can be locked with a screw, allowing integration into rescue kits. The I'D S is compatible with 10 to 11.5 mm ropes and is rated for loads up to 150 kg for one person and up to 250 kg for rescue use. It weighs 600 g and is certified to EN 341 type 2 class A, EN 12841 type C, EN 15151-1, ANSI Z359.4, NFPA 1983 Technical Use, and EAC standards when used within approved configurations.
