What is LOLER?

LOLER stands for the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. These regulations require lifting equipment used for work to be regularly inspected to ensure it is safe and fit for purpose.

For arborists, this includes climbing and rigging equipment such as harnesses, climbing ropes, karabiners, pulleys and other load-bearing equipment.

LOLER inspections must be carried out by a competent person and are required at regular intervals to ensure equipment remains safe to use.

How Often Does Equipment Need a LOLER Inspection?

Inspection Intervals

Inspection Intervals

Climbing and rigging equipment must be inspected at regular intervals under LOLER regulations.

Climbing Equipment – every 6 months

Includes harnesses, climbing ropes, lanyards and other life-support equipment used for climbing.

Rigging Equipment – every 12 months

Includes rigging ropes, pulleys, slings and other equipment used for lifting or lowering loads.

If equipment has been involved in an incident or shock load that may affect its safety, it should be inspected immediately.

Professional Equipment Inspection

Treeworker provides thorough LOLER inspections for arborists and tree workers to help ensure climbing and rigging equipment remains safe and compliant.

Each inspection includes a detailed examination of your equipment to identify wear, damage or defects that may affect its safety.

At present, inspections are available on a drop-off basis. Please get in touch to arrange an inspection or enquire about current pricing and availability.

Pricing

£90 + VAT for inspection of a standard climbing or rigging kit.

A typical kit may include one harness, two ropes, 5–10 carabiners, a lanyard, climbing devices, and associated equipment.

Additional items beyond this (for example extra harnesses, ropes, or hardware) may incur a small additional charge.

All inspections are carried out by a qualified LOLER inspector, and a full inspection report will be provided.

If you are unsure whether your equipment falls within a standard kit, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to advise.
