Switching between techniques requires no additional tools or adjustments, and the rope does not need to be removed from the device. Its construction delivers consistent and identical descent behaviour in both SRT and MRS configurations, supporting smooth and predictable operation in the canopy. Seamless transition between SRT and MRS The BlackBird can be fully opened using a push button and is mid-line attachable without detaching the device from the harness. The integrated swivel maintains optimal alignment during movement, while the upper carabiner attachment sits opposite the user, allowing the rope to be fed easily into the device. The upper attachment point can also be used for V-rigs and 3:1 or 4:1 pulley systems. Efficient rope management and adjustability A ball-bearing pulley supports comfortable handling, even when minimal slack is available. For personalised performance, the cam can be rotated on the friction amplifier to fine-tune operation. A dedicated carabiner attachment point allows connection to a chest harness, helping pull the device up efficiently during ascent. Rescue capability and serviceability The ART BlackBird is approved for rescue with two persons on both single rope (SRT) and double rope (DRT) systems. It is supplied with two brake jaws: A for ropes 11.2β11.9 mm and B for ropes 11.9β13 mm. All wearing parts are replaceable. The device is certified to EN 12841 B/C and has a service life of 7 years from first use.
