Petzl ZigZag

The Petzl ZigZag is a mechanical Prusik designed to support efficient, controlled movement when working in the tree canopy. Built around the familiar principles of a classic Prusik pulley system, it allows arborists to climb, reposition, and work with precision while benefiting from mechanical consistency. The friction chain delivers smooth, fluid rope control, supporting confident movement during both ascent and work positioning.

Familiar Prusik technique with mechanical consistency

The ZigZag operates using a technique identical to a traditional Prusik pulley system, making it intuitive for experienced climbers to adopt. As the friction chain extends, the device locks automatically on the rope, providing immediate and reliable grip. This predictable behaviour supports confident positioning and controlled transitions when moving through the canopy.

Smooth rope handling and stable alignment

Rope feed is smooth and precise, with speed regulated by the release lever, allowing the climber to fine-tune movement with controlled pressure. A pulley mounted on sealed ball bearings makes taking up slack efficient and reduces effort during repeated adjustments. The separated and curved side plates improve rope flow and durability, while the fixed lower attachment hole keeps the device aligned with the axis of the climber, helping optimise grip and stability during work.

Versatile use across climbing systems

The ZigZag can be used on doubled rope systems or adapted for single rope techniques when combined with compatible accessories. An upper attachment hole supports correct rope end positioning on doubled rope setups or connection of an auxiliary braking device for single rope use. A flexible positioning ring helps keep connectors aligned along their major axis, while an additional attachment hole allows integration of a lanyard or secondary system, supporting adaptable and efficient work configurations.
