The FTC Freexion Friction Device - Kit is a compact energy diffusion system designed to allow controlled progression with a friction hitch on a single rope while supporting smooth movement in all directions. Developed for professional arborist climbing, the system makes it easy to adapt braking and friction without removing the device from the rope. Its design supports efficient switching between single rope and doubled rope techniques while maintaining a stable, upright climbing position.

Tool-free friction adjustment during climbing

The Freexion features a three-position adjustment system with hard, medium, and soft settings, allowing friction to be adapted to rope diameter, climber weight, rope condition, or working situation. Friction can be changed in seconds by pressing both ends of the double button, without tools and without dismantling the system. During use in the tree, changing the tether pin position adjusts braking behaviour, allowing friction to be reduced high in the canopy with heavier rope weight or increased lower down as conditions change.

Efficient setup and compact system layout

A secured front pin allows the Freexion to be opened and installed mid-line anywhere on the rope for straightforward setup. The short, flexible tether keeps the system positioned low and close to the body, supporting an upright posture and reducing the need to reach high during ascent. This compact layout provides increased freedom of movement, particularly during large lateral transitions, while making it easy to move between SRT and DRT work without disconnecting the system.

Construction, compatibility, and system weights

The device is built with forged aluminium cheekplates, a moulded stainless steel cam, and machined stainless steel pins. The tether is constructed from a polyester and Dyneema blend, while the hitch uses a mix of Technora, polyamide, and polyester. Aluminium pulleys with stainless steel axles are included depending on configuration. The Freexion is CE certified and compatible with EN 1891 Type A ropes from 11.5 mm to 12.5 mm diameter. Dimensions are 110 x 60 x 30 mm. System weights include 350 g for the Freexion system with single attachment pulley, 405 g with triple attachment pulley, 255 g for the Freexion sub-system, 205 g for Freexion with tether, 15 g for the tether alone, and 55 g for the hitch.
